Princeton Billiards Club 8-ball League Fall 2011 – Spring 2012
This year’s rankings will be calculated using FARGO ratings, an 8-ball rating system used by Flatland Pool League at Fargo Billiards & Gastropub. Score changes are based on the relative strength of your opponent. A higher rated opponent will lose more points and win less points against a lower rated opponent. Equivalently, a lower rated opponent will win more points and lose less points against a higher rated opponent. Players who play against someone who has yet to play any games will not win or lose any points (why you may find some of the rankings strange, but this allows first-time players to get an accurate ranking before their results start affecting others). The idea of the rating is that for every 100 points, the higher rated player is twice as good as the lower rated player in the sense that the higher rated player is expected to win twice as many games (i.e. a fair match between them would be race to 8 vs race to 4).
Everybody starts with 450 rating. The ordering is by rating, then by number of total games, then by win %.
